Exploring Delectable Macaron Flavour Combinations

Macarons, those delicate and colourful French confections, have taken the world by storm with their heavenly taste and elegant appearance. While classic macaron flavours like vanilla, chocolate, and raspberry are undeniably delightful, there is a whole world of creative and unique flavour combinations waiting to be explored. In this blog post, I will delve into the realm of macaron flavour combinations that will tantalise your taste buds and leave you craving for more.

There are many different macaron fillings and flavour combinations including flavoured chocolate, buttercreams, curds, jam/jellies and cream cheese. However, you can’t go wrong with chocolate. It goes well with almost everything such as warming spices, herbs, nuts, berries, citrus, caramels and honey. However, I feel, selecting the right flavour combinations can set you apart from the High Street stores and supermarkets.

There are different categories of macaron flavours – sweet, fruity, floral and also savoury!

Sweet macaron flavours: chocolate, gingerbread, vanilla, caramel, cheesecake, Nutella, Oreo, Lotus Biscoff, cinnamon toast, Neapolitan, red velvet, salted caramel.

Fruity macaron flavours: raspberries, strawberries, passionfruit, peach, orange, apricot, blackcurrant, pear, lime, yuzu, coconut, green apple, mango, guava, mango, pineapple, lychee, cherry, etc

Floral and tea macaron flavours: Earl Grey, rose, lavender, bergamot, jasmine, hibiscus,

Sakura (Japanese cherry blossom), basil.

Savoury macaron flavours: smoked salmon and lemon, sesame, peanut butter, pistachio, pumpkin, fig, maple bacon, avocado and for those way out there flavours: white truffle, pate, ketchup, avocado, pink peppercorn.

I love trying different flavour combinations. My favourite one just now is Elderflower and lemon with mango and key lime and apple and fennel close behind.

Elderflower flowers and half a lemon

Elderflower and Lemon Perfectly balanced flavours combining the gentle floral notes of elderflower and the citrusy tang of the lemon. This combination results in a refreshing flavour that is both sweet and tangy.

Mango and Key Lime When mango and key lime flavours are combined, they create a harmonious fusion of tropical sweetness and tang resulting in a flavour combination that balances the richness of the mango with the tangy zestiness of the key lime.

Green apple with fennel

Apple and Fennel The liquorice like taste of the fennel combined with the sweetness of the granny smith apple has the right balance of sweet and savoury.

Sakura (Japanese Cherry Blossom) and Strawberry Compote Subtle fruit and floral flavour considered to be earthy, tea-like or slightly rose-like. A strawberry compote filling compliments the Sakura flavour for a well-balanced spring macaron.

The floral notes from the Sakura match fruits like raspberry and apricot. The almond aroma in the sakura combines well with chocolate.

Coconut, Mango and Pineapple Escape to a tropical paradise with the tropical flavours of coconut, mango and pineapple. The creamy sweetness of coconut complements the tangy and juiciness of the mango and pineapple.

Lavender flowers and sliced lemon

Lemon and Lavender

For a refreshing and floral twist, try zesty lemon curd with the delicate aroma of lavender. The citrusy tang of the lemon complements the subtle floral undertones, creating a light, aromatic and delightful macaron.

Earl Grey and Honey For tea lovers, the combination of fragrant Earl Grey tea and smooth honey is a match made in macaron heaven. The distinctive bergamot flavour of Earl Grey merges with the natural sweetness of honey.

The floral notes of the lavender complement the citrusy bergamot flavour of the Earl Grey tea.

Dried hibiscus flowers and raspberries

Hibiscus and Raspberry A delightful fusion of sweet, tangy and floral elements. Hibiscus has been described as having the taste of cranberries or sour cherries. Raspberries bring a refreshing burst of fruity sweetness.

Yuzu and Raspberry The citrus notes of the yuzu enhance the raspberry’s natural tartness creating a taste that is both tangy and sweet.

Macarons offer a canvas for endless creativity when it comes to flavour combinations. From the classic to the exotic, these delicate treats can be transformed into a symphony of tastes that cater for all palates.

Whether you prefer the harmonious blend of sweet and savoury or crave the fusion of contrasting flavours, there is a macaron flavour combination waiting for you to delight your senses.
